GEOTRACES filtering team processing the last cast. I’ve posted pictures in the past of rosette deployment for collecting seawater samples – the grey GoFlo bottles attached to the walls in this picture are the bottles that attach to the rosette. Once filled, they are carried into a clean laboratory van for processing which involves filling dozens of sample bottles that are later acidified (to preserve the sample) and stored in a freezer. Each GoFlo bottle is assigned a unique GEOTRACES number that serves as a code; water from one large grey bottle may be distributed to 10 different labs all analyzing different metals and the number allows for comparison of different parameters.
