This is what my lab and two months of supplies looks like packed into boxes. Today we shipped $30,000 worth of gear to Seattle, Washington where we will meet the R/V Thompson next weekend to begin setting up the lab.The quantity and monetary value of each and every item packed has to be documented to insure the packages through shipping to Seattle and also to present to customs when we return our gear to the United States. The actual packing process took about one week but cleaning bottles, sample containers, and preparing reagents took all summer. Pacific GEOTRACES heads to sea in one month!
Special thanks to Katelyn and Brendan, our undergraduate research technicians that spent countless hours crushing this material through a sieve to make the right size. I promise I wrapped it in at least three layers of bubble wrap so it will be protected through shipping and fully appreciated while at sea!
